Which Dive Boot Do I Need?

Choosing the right dive boot makes a huge difference to your comfort, performance, and protection in the water. At fourth element we’ve designed our boots and shoes to go beyond the basics – they’re built for divers who want stability, durability, and comfort whether you’re boat diving abroad or scrambling over rocks to a shore entry.

All our boots share the same design DNA:

  • Fin strap retainer: keeps your strap locked in the right place (below the heel, not across your achilles).
  • Offset seams or durable linings: prevent rubbing and blisters.
  • Shoe-like support: ergonomic insoles, heel and arch support, underfoot cushioning.
  • Custom comfort: removable insoles allow you to fine-tune the fit.

And our dive boots both have secure zips, heavy-duty with a locking tab so they won’t work loose mid-dive.

So which is right for you –  Pelagic, Amphibian or Rock Hoppers?

Pelagic Boot – Lightweight Versatility

The Pelagic is our lighter-weight, travel-friendly dive boot. Designed for comfort and performance, it’s perfect for boat diving, liveaboards, and warm to temperate waters, but tough enough for a rocky shore entry too.

Best for:

  • Travelling divers
  • Boat and liveaboard diving
  • Occasional shore diving

Why choose Pelagic:

  • Lightweight design, easy to pack
  • 6.5mm neoprene for warmth in temperate and cooler waters
  • Ergonomic insole gives a stable “chassis” for comfort when finning and climbing ladders
  • Great grip without unnecessary bulk

Versatile enough for most diving conditions

Amphibian Boot – Heavy Duty Protection

The Amphibian is built for divers who want maximum support and ruggedness. Its stable footbed and moulded outsole are designed for regular shore diving and rocky entries, giving confidence on slippery surfaces. It can also be used as a rock boot with a drysuit, making it a strong choice for divers who switch between wetsuit and drysuit diving but don’t want to change fin sizes.

Best for:

  • Regular shore divers
  • Cold water and UK diving
  • Drysuit divers who want one boot for all setups

Why choose Amphibian:

  • 6.5mm neoprene with extra reinforcement for warmth and durability
  • Rugged outsole for protection on rocks and slippery surfaces
  • Stable, cushioned footbed with arch support for long-term comfort
  • Doubles as a drysuit rock boot

Rock Hopper – Lightweight Neoprene Shoe

The Rock Hopper is our most versatile neoprene shoe. Lightweight but packed with comfort, it’s perfect for divers and snorkellers who want protection when scrambling over rocks or walking to a dive entry. Thanks to heel reinforcement and durable lining across the bridge of the foot, it can also be used with open-heel fins. A smoothskin ankle seal keeps them snug, whether you’re walking, climbing, or finning.

Best for:

  • Snorkelling, freediving, or light diving
  • Shore entries where grip and protection matter
  • Divers who want a minimalist alternative to a full boot

Why choose Rock Hopper:

  • Natural rubber outsole for grip on rocks and wet surfaces
  • Smoothskin ankle seal reduces water movement and keeps shoes in place
  • Ergonomic insole for comfort and support
  • Heel reinforcement + fin strap retainer for use with open-heel fins
  • Lightweight and travel-friendly
  • OceanPositive
